At Boyer Park: Port plans to add RV spaces, cabins

Boyer Park will see additional RV space plus four new cabins added to the park within the next two years. Port of Whitman County Property and Development Manager Debbie Snell explained to port commissioners a new map showing the proposed sites for the projects at the Nov. 6 meeting.

She is preparing to revise the application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The port leases Boyer from the corps.

The plans call for 14 RV spaces on the northern part of the day use portion of the park, just past the exit to the main park.

The full hookup RV spaces will almost double the number of RV spaces the park offers now. The park also has several tent spaces available.

Four pre-fabricated cabins will be built that will include parking places and a small grassy area between each cabin.

The cabins will be within 200 feet of the Snake River shoreline. Each cabin will have basic electricity and exterior water, but no indoor plumbing.

Snell said a new State Environmental Policy Act plan will be done along with a shoreline permit application.

Cost for the entire project is estimated at approximately $200,000, Snell said.

Most of the cost of the cabins will be covered by an insurance claim for a port-owned mobile home at Boyer that was destroyed by a wind storm a couple of years ago.

Snell also said the project includes expanding the drain field and installing water and sewer so the RVs will have full pump out facilities. New electrical systems will be installed for newer RVs which take more electricity.

Snell also said they will try to avoid removing any large trees.

Snell added the port is considering applying for a grant to refurbish the docks at the marina. If the port receives the grant, construction won’t begin until 2017 or 2018 because of permit applications the port must write, she said.
