Serving Whitman County since 1877
Whitman County commissioners Monday signed a letter of support for COAST transportation service.
“We are glad to honor your request for support as COAST is a vital part of the county’s transportation infrastructure,” the letter said.
The letter also acknowledges that COAST is requesting to continue special needs transportation services and wants to purchase a replacement bus.
“These special needs services include COAST’s demand responsive and route deviation van transportation services and volunteer services primarily for Whitman County residents,” the letter said.
“In the past, the COAST staff members have worked closely and effectively with elected officials and other agencies. Whitman County and the Council on Aging & Human Services have a 30-plus year history of cooperation and support. This history began in 1976 when the county helped the Whitman County Council on Aging incorporate,” the letter continued
In 1984, Whitman County officially designated COAST as the lead agency for specialized transportation services. The array of services provided by COAST plays a vital role in the lives of many Whitman County residents and others living in southeastern Washington and central Idaho.
“I hope this letter is evidence of the vital role COAST plays in Whitman County and hope the state will favorably consider your 2015-2016 grant requests.”
Commissioners also acknowledged receipt of a notice that the town of Malden is annexing some property. The property is one acre and will be used for a new water storage facility.
The town paid $10 last year to Gene and Gwelda Henning for the property.
