Top Notch sets Friday for opening after fire

Pete and Candis Koerner, proprietors of the Top Notch, expect to have the business back in operation Friday. They have hired a contractor who planned to repair a section of wall and ceiling Wednesday.

Firefighters had to cut into the wall when a fire was discovered burning next to a stove early last Wednesday morning, Nov. 19.

The Koerners, who were vacationing in California last week, returned to Colfax Saturday and opened the door for the coffee break regulars on Monday morning.

A cleanup crew from Servicemaster cleaned out the restaurant last week. Work on the wall and ceiling was slated after getting an appraisal from an insurance adjuster.

The restaurant’s grill and other fixtures are in operating condition, but the stove was destroyed in the fire.

Koerner said the Friday re-opening will mean he will be able to accommodate Apple Cup fans who are expected to be rolling through Colfax Friday and Saturday enroute to the WSU-UW game which has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
