Bulldog boys outpace Reardan for 7-1 record

Colfax boys put the binders on a fast-moving Reardan team Tuesday night to finish a 3-0 league week a 68-46 win. The Indians, again rolling with a speed game and shooting spurts, kept pace with Colfax in the first quarter but began to lose ground in the middle two quarters.

The win over Reardan followed a tough win over Wilbur/Creston on the home court Saturday and a strong win at Mary Walker of Springdale Friday.

Colfax is now 7-1 in the league race behind the Liberty Lancers who have bumped their league string to 8-0.

Tuesday against Reardan, Kasey Johnson hit 23 points to lead Colfax. The Bulldogs put down seven three-point shots.

Reardan senior guard Daniel Peone marked his last trip to the Colfax gym with four three-point shots.

Saturday night, the Wilbur/Creston boys arrived at Colfax with a 5-2 league record after being hammered 68-44 by the league leading Liberty Lancers in the Friday round.

The Wildcats had a slow start at Colfax, but came to life late in the game to put the game on edge going down to the final seconds. The Wildcats came within three points of the Bulldogs who fended off the charge mostly with toss shots.

Colfax led 19-5 after the first quarter and 28-17 at the break. They had it 46-32 going into the last quarter when the Wildcats came to life. The Colfax lead shrank to under 10 points when Nick Densley dropped a pair of toss shots. It shrank to six points, 50-44, when Dorian Jaeger drove to the bucket.

Brent Becker kept Colfax ahead with a putback shot, but WC charged against with senior Trystan Rosman hitting two three point shots, one from each corner.

Becker and Mark Webber kept Colfax in front for the 57-52 escape with more toss shots.

A check of the bottom line, shows the Bulldogs indeed won the game at the toss line with a 17-22 mark. The Wildcats had one more bucket from the field, hit just 10 of 17 off the line.

Kasey Johnson had a game high 17 points Saturday and Densley led the Wildcats with 15.

Friday at Springdale, Colfax scratched out a 16-14 lead after the first quarter but dominated the Chargers in the middle two quarters on the way to a 72-33 win. Colfax added 20 points to their lead in the third quarter.

Springdale hosted Colfax after posting a 3-4 record in the NE league.

Johnson also hit 17 to lead the Bulldogs at Springdale. Danny Robinson, who was sidelined last week with a bad ankle, finished with 13 points.

Friday's game also saw Becker finally get into the action and score 10.
