Colfax girls add three to NE league string

Colfax girls ran three more wins over the week to bump their NE league mark to 8-0. The Bulldogs Tuesday finished the run with a 62-41 home win over Reardan after posting a big lead in the first half.

The home win Tuesday followed 47-23 crunch to the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats on the home court Saturday and a tougher 47-39 win at Springdale Friday.

Amara Huber led Colfax against Reardan with 18 points with 15 of those going down in the first half.

The Bulldogs led 39-23 at the half, and each team added 10 beans in the third quarter.

Colfax booked 16 steals against the Wildcats, and Reardan sustained 35 turnovers against the Colfax pressure defense.

Colfax finished the first half against the Indians with a 39-23 lead with Huber hitting the last bucket.

Saturday night on the home court the Bulldog girls cruised to a 47-23 win over a young Wilbur/Creston team. The Wildcats, making their NE league debut on the newly varnished Colfax court, stayed within two points of the undefeated Bulldogs in the first quarter, but Colfax poured on the coal in the second frame and led 34-15 at the break.

The Wildcats failed to hit one bucket from the field in the second quarter.

Coach Corey Baerlocher again put the whole crew in action in the second half for a close third quarter, but the Wildcats scored just one point in the final frame.

The Wildcats had just seven buckets from the field in the game with Ireland Corrigan, the only player to get more than one, hitting two.

Wilbur is coached by Rich Jaeger who played his high school basketball for the Nighthawks in the Whitman League.

Colfax girls Friday night came close to getting ambushed by a 1-6 Charger team at Springdale. The Chargers jumped to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter with the Bulldogs opening in a can't-buy-a-basket mode. Colfax made up the gap in the second quarter and had a 23-19 edge at the half, but the hosts came back again after the break.

Colfax rolled out a 16-7 run in the last quarter with freshman Carmen Gfeller posting a strong final quarter. She finished with a game-high 21 points with a string of eight in the last quarter.

The Bulldogs had 16 steals with four by Huber to stave off the Chargers. Gfeller also finished with 11 rebounds.

Springdale was led by Jackie Carr who scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Springdale hosted with a 5-6 overall record but had just one win to date in the NE race.
