Colfax girls Saturday wrapped a 10-0 run in the first two rounds of the NE with a 71-37 afternoon win at Kettle Falls, again the northern most site of league competition. The Bulldogs rolled out a barrage of 31 points in the first quarter to keep their NE string on track.
Host Kettle actually shaved four points off the big Colfax lead in the second quarter, but the host team still trailed 17-36 at the half.
Andra Hamilton hit three 3-point shots in the runaway Colfax win over the 3-7 Kettle Falls club, and Carmen Gfeller led the scoring with 13 points.
The Bulldogs will travel to St. George’s Saturday night to play the 5-5 Dragons to start the second round of play on the south side of the NE.
St. George’s will host after a 40-37 win over Wilbur/Creston in the Saturday round to end their north side tour.
At 10-0 in the league race, Colfax is close to a guarantee of a top slot in the first round of the district playoffs with a three-game cushion over Lind/Ritzville/Sprague, now 7-3.
Colfax next Tuesday will host the Liberty team which is now tied for the fourth place slot in the south side race with the Tekoa/Rosalia Timberwolves at 3-7. The Lancer girls in Tuesday were topped by Northwest Christian 60-39.
The cutoff mark for the district playoffs will be four teams for each side of the league which means the season will end after league play for the number-five finisher in the south side and the number five and six finishers on the north side.
Northwest Christian now leads the north side race at 9-1 with their lone NE loss sustained in their visit to Colfax.
If Colfax and the Crusaders remain on top on each side of the league, they don’t figure to collide again until the second or third round of the district eliminations which start Feb. 4 at Reardan.
League standings for the girls on the south side of the NE are Colfax 10-0, Lind/Ritzville/Sprague 7-3, St. George’s 5-5, Liberty 3-7 and Tekoa/Rosalia 3-7.
League standings for team on the north side are Northwest Christian 9-1, Reardan 7-3, Davenport 5-5, Kettle Falls 3-7, Wilbur/Creston 2-8 and Springdale 1-9.
