Comic confab

slated at SEL

Pac-Con Palouse comic convention will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, at the SEL Event Center in Pullman. The event will host comic book artists from all around the world and vendors from across the region.

Special guests will include Clare Kramer, from the television series, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, and voice actor Chuck Huber from the television series, ‘Dragon Ball Z.'

Featured artists will be Tom Cook, whose work includes the television series, ‘He-man and the Masters of the Universe’, 'Fat Albert' and many others; Chad Hardin, current artist for the DC comic’s favorite title, ‘Harley Quinn', and James O’Barr who created the pop-culture classic, ‘The Crow’.

The convention will include a costume contest hosted by Moscow retailer, Safari Pearl. The contest is offering more than $1,000 in cash prizes in addition to other prizes to winners at the event.

Pac-Con Palouse will feature tables with local and regional vendors, displays, artists, comic book retailers and more in the main event space at the SEL Center. Other rooms in the venue will host card games while others will be filled with board games and panel discussions with guests.

The event is open to the public and tickets are available at Zeppoz in Pullman, Safari Pearl in Moscow and online through Pacific-Conventions.com or at TicketLeap.com. Standard pricing is $20 and discounts are given for students and members of the military as well as children.

plans talent show

The 17th annual P.E.O. variety show will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Palouse Grange Hall in Palouse. The show will features a wide variety of performers of all ages. The event is sponsored by Chapter IO, P.E.O. All proceeds are donated to educational scholarships.

Refreshments will be served during intermission and giant Valentine cookies and fudge will also be available for purchase.

Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and $15 for a family.

Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club sponsored the 2015 Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl National Poster Contest for the local children. The US Forest Service and National Garden Clubs, Inc. offer $100 U.S. Savings Bonds to first place national winners from each grade level.

Local and District chairman Terrie Tucker announced participation from grades 1-5 from Rosalia, and the district winners have been sent on to state competition.

The next garden club meeting will be Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Rosalia United Methodist Church. Guest Speaker Kurt Madison, Spokane Community College Art Design Instructor, will speak on different types of art design from traditional to creative abstracts with jewelry.

Guests are welcome. Notify the program chairman Mary Ann Bowman if interested in attending.

Colfax P.E.O.

The first meeting of Chapter AF for 2015 was Jan. 26 at the home of Charli Hochsprung, hostess, with Marsha Binder, co-hostess. Nineteen members responded to roll call by giving their favorite vacation location.

An invitation from the Garfield Chapter was read regarding the Reciprocity meeting/luncheon April 11.

The Founders' Day program was given by Dorothy Feldman.

The next meeting will be Feb. 9 at the Courtyard. Robyn Johnson will be the hostess/co-hostess. The program will be presented by the bylaws committee.

Hall, Lane Brantley, was born Jan. 24, 2015, at seven pounds, 14 ounces, to Danie and Christopher Hall. Maternal grandparents are Dale and Diana Dawson. Paternal grandparents are Joy and Gary Watson and Walter Hall. The baby joins brother Colt.

Wudiri, Isabel Shetu, was born Jan. 12, 2015, at seven pounds, five ounces, to George and Amanda Wudiri of Pullman. Paternal grandparents are the late Ayuba and Shetu Wudiri. Maternal grandparents are Greg and Jane Eggert of Tigard, Oregon.

Harker, Josephina Sage, born Jan. 19 at eight pounds, 13 ounces, to Penny and Jonathan Harker, Clarkston. Paternal grandparents are Mark and Suzanne Harker. Maternal grandparents are Mike and Lynne Melder, Lavonia, Wash., and Carol and Craig Brock, Milledgeville, Ga. Baby joins brother Tristan, 10 and sister Portia, 7.
