Voters approve levies for schools, towns, parks

Voters approved a lineup of special levy proposals in the first county special election Tuesday, according to the county auditor’s elections office. Four school districts all received stong majorities.

The auditor’s elections office counted 1,232 ballots in the Tuesday night count.

Colton’s replacement levy request for $495,392 in 2016 received 69 percent approval at 207 yes and 92 no.

Garfield district’s proposal for $260,000 for 2016, $265,000 for 2017, and $270,000 for 2018 received 72 percent approval with a 145 yes and 58 no. Garfield’s capital projects levy for repairs and maintenance of $30,000 in 2016, $32,000 in 2017 and $35,000 in 2018 received a count of 147 yes and 57 no.

Lamont district’s request for $155,000 for 2016 and 2017 was approved by 71 percent with 28 yes and 11 no.

Palouse district’s request for $470,000 for 2016, $490,000 for 2017 and $510,000 for 2018 received just under 70 percent approval with 233 yes and 105 no. The Palouse capital projects levy for $200,000 over the next three years was approved by 70 percent with 237 yes and 100 no votes.

Endicott’s request for a $7,500 levy for fire and EMT services had the strongest approval with more than 95 percent, 86 yes and 4 no.

Rosalia’s request for a $68,000 street fund improvement levy marked a 61 percent approval with 87 yes and 55 no.

Garfield parks request for $120,000 for the swim pool passed with a 72 percent approval at 140 yes and 54 no

Rosalia’s $55,000 parks and recreation request passed at just more than 69 percent with 156 yes and 102 no.
