Singers and musicians from 10 schools participated in the SE Washington Music Educators Honor Choir and Band concert last night in the CHS auditorium. Patrick Winters and Kristina Ploeger, both members of the music faculty at Eastern Washington University, directed.
Winters and the honor band, top, concluded their part of the program with Inchon, a tribute to veterans of the Korean and Vietnam wars, which was written by Robert W. Smith in honor of his father’s service.
The number featured percussion sounds, including the chopper noises of a helicopter, which were played by school band teachers who were in the balcony and along the sides of the stage.
The honor choir concluded with the medley from West Side Story. A feature number for the choir was Famine Song which derived from the chants of African basket weavers.
Participants in the concert came from Asotin, Clarkston, Colfax, Connell, Garfield/Palouse, Rosalia, St. John/Endicott, Tekoa, Waitsburg and Washtucna.
