Saturday, Linda Hennigar was at Walla Walla High School to watch her grandson, Wesley Banks, captain his squad of 28 members in a Junior ROTC Competition of groups from Washington and Oregon. Wesley’s unit is an Air Force squad from Kennewick High School. This was their first year of competition. All branches of the armed forces ROTC from other schools were represented in competing in armed and unarmed drills, individual and team drills and physical training, which consisted of push-ups, sit-ups and a one mile run.
Since the competition began at 8 a.m., the Kennewick ROTC, as well as some of the Oregon schools, arrived the night before and slept in classrooms. Wesley’s mother, Tami Banks, was the chaperone and provided food for the team. The competition ended at 7:30 p.m. Also cheering on the Kennewick team were Jim Moore, Burbank; Uncle Mark Banks, Kennewick; Grandpa Bob Hennigar, Dayton, and parents Tami and Jay Banks, Kennewick.
Micah Morgan, Yakima, spent Wednesday through Sunday with grandparents Harmon and Jan Smith. He helped make two wooden boxes using the woodworking tools he received at Christmas time. He also enjoyed the nice weather, riding a four wheeler. Micah and Jan visited with Micah’s great-grandmother, Irma Stueckle, Saturday in Colfax.
Jon and Li Ochs had their daughters and granddaughter, Nadja and Avril from Duvall and Sara from Seattle, home for the weekend. All attended the birthday party for Tina Ochs Friday evening, March 6, at the Community Center in Palouse. Also attending the party from Dusty were Vicki Broeckel, Connie Horton, Bryan Jones and Chuck Lyman.
