Dusty B.B. Club April 8 toured the Landgrove Coffee Company in Troy, Idaho. Elections for next year’s officers were held. Helen Appel will be president; Dianne Appel, vice president; Rita Ackerman, secretary and Karen Broeckel, treasurer. Guest Day Luncheon in the Jones Schoolhouse at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds will be Wednesday, May 13.
David and Phyllis Stueckle, Dusty, and Reuben and Judy Stueckle, Puyallup, recently spent four days at Lake Chelan.
Barb Wollstein, Lacey, visited her parents, Dick and Helen Appel, for five days to help her mother with spring gardening. Caroline Kunkel and children, Pullman, spent two days of spring vacation planting potatoes and early garden at their grandparents, Dick and Helen Appel. Weekend visitors for WSU Mothers’ Weekend were Deb and Bob Stavig, Brush Prairie, and Nancy Calvert, Helen’s sister, of Enumclaw.
Cross Country singing group, Linda Hennigar, Bob Davidson and Jerry Martin, performed during the entire morning worship service at the Methodist Church in Ritzville last Sunday.
Saturday Kim and Cindy Pitts were in Spokane to cheer on grandson Rafe Carlson as he raced his pinewood derby car in the regional competition. Rafe had won the race of his Cub Scout pack and set a pack record in doing so.
This past weekend was the annual mini-reunion for the LaCrosse graduating class of 1979 at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast. Participants were Doreen Broeckel Riedner, Dusty; Denise Broeckel Kendall, Tacoma; and Sheri Shaffer Hatley, Oakesdale. Joining them for breakfast and church services at the Country Bible Church Sunday were Sheri’s mother, Darlene Shaffer of LaCrosse, and Doreen and Denise’s father, Oscar Broeckel of Dusty. Kendall is spending several of her spring break days from teaching in the area.
Sunday evening, Tom and Doreen Riedner, Greg Nolan and Denise Kendall were at WSU where Homestead Ministries, operated by Riedner and Nolan, were honored and thanked for providing 200 pounds of split pea soup bags that were taken to Guatemala by a WSU class with Hearts in Motion.
Monday morning, John Murray, brother-in-law, stopped at the home of Oscar Broeckel where he was invited to share breakfast with Oscar and Denise Kendall. Later he stopped for a short visit at the Karen Broeckel home. Murray was on his way from his winter home in Yuma, Ariz., to his summer home in Bellingham.
Danny Mortlock, former Dusty resident, died at the age of 62 on April 7 in Spokane. Mortlock’s father was the pastor at the Country Bible Church and taught at the LaCrosse High School from 1965 to 1967. From Dusty, the family, all 12 of them, moved to Spokane and helped start the Northwest Christian School. His father, Earl Mortlock, preceded him in death. He is survived by the rest of his family.
Three members of the Palouse 3N1 Ridaz Colfax Chapter of Christian Motorcycle Association attended the Desert 100 race in Odessa over the weekend to ride and tend the CMA booth. There were approximately 5,000 attendees at the race. Four members of the club are from Dusty.
