The Colfax softball team rolled all the way to Kettle Falls Tuesday and pegged a double win over the K-dogs, one of the expected contenders in the NE League. Kettle hosted with just one defeat in the league run, a split with Northwest Christian
Tuesday's double win at Kettle moved the Colfax record to 8-0. They stopped Springdale, another top NE team, with two wins at McDonald Park last Friday.
Next action for the Bulldogs will be a doubleheader with the Wilbur/Creston Wildcats at McDonald Park Saturday starting at noon.
Colfax Tuesday dropped host Kettle 15-1 in the first game and 9-0 in the second game. The 9-0 decision meant the Bulldogs had to play the full seven innings, something they haven't needed to do since facing LRS.
In the 15-1 win, pitcher Erica Eng allowed two hits, struck out nine and allowed five walks. Amara Huber went 3-for-3 at the plate, all singles and had three RBIs. Eng had two singles for three RBIs.
Other hitters in the first game were Kori Goodwin, two singles and a double; Andra Hamilton, two singles, and Sidney Sheer, also two singles. The Bulldogs totaled 14 hits in the opener.
In the 9-0 shutout over seven innings in the second game, Colfax staked a 6-0 lead after two innings, but couldn't stretch the edge to 10 runs. They had two runners in base with one out in the top of the sixth, but Kettle stopped the threat
Eng struck out 12 Kettle batters and walked just one in the second game.
Hamilton singled and doubled for two RBIs. Also hitting for Colfax were Abby Miller, double; Huber, single; Kindra Kneale, single; Brittany Lewis, two singles; Allison Dunning single, and Cheyanne Stokes, single.
Friday, Colfax softball players bumped their league string to 6-0 with two wins over the Springdale charges at McDonald Park in Colfax.
The Bulldogs took the first game 11-1 with senior hurler Eng throwing a one hitter. She struck out 13 Charger batters and walked just two.
Colfax totaled 10 hits in the game.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the second inning with Lewis tagging a two-run double.
They added five more runs in the fourth inning with Sarah Appel rapping a two-run single and Eng and Goodwin each hitting RBI singes.
Appel, Eng and Lewis each had two RBIs in the first game.
Springdale's Elish Smith, who had been dominating the league, sustained a sprained arm earlier in the week and was able to only throw in the opener against the Bulldogs.
In the second game Friday, Eng allowed two hits, struck out eight and walked zero Chargers on the way to the 15-0 shutout. The Bulldogs totaled nine hits in the second game.
Springdale used three different pitchers.
Hitters for Colfax were Appel, single and double; Eng, single; Hamilton, single; Huber, two singles; Lewis, single. Miller single and Stokes, double.
Colfax opened with two runs in the first inning and looped nine eight runners in the third inning when they drew a total of 11 walks from the Springdale backup pitchers.
Five more Colfax runs in the bottom of the fourth inning shut the score down on the 10-run rule.
