St. John Fair packs full slate of events

“Sow It! Grow It! Show It!” is the theme for this year’s St. John Community Fair which begins today and runs through Sunday.

St. John’s fair kicks off the county’s run of town celebrations which lasts throughout the summer.

Submission of entries for the St. John Fair starts today at 8 a.m. with food, sewing, adult arts and crafts, photography and flowers accepted until noon. Livestock entries are accepted from noon to 5 p.m.

The Cook Shack opens at 11 a.m. Judging will be from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Home Economics building which will open at 5 p.m. to the public for evening viewing.

On Friday, fitting and showing classes begin at 9 a.m. with FFA first. Sheep are at 9 a.m., goats at 9:45 a.m., swine at 10 a.m. and beef at 11 a.m.

The Cook Shack and Community Building opens at 9 a.m.

Confirmation classes begin at 1 p.m. with FFA first. Beef starts at 1 p.m., followed by sheep at 2 p.m., meat class goats at 3 p.m. and swine at 3:30 p.m. Round Robin follows the last class.

On Saturday, a Cowboy Breakfast will be served at the Cook Shack from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Hog Jog registration is from 7 to 8 a.m. and the jog starts at 8:30 a.m.

The 4H and FFA Horse Show starts at 9 a.m. with the 4H, FFA and adult livestock judging starting at 9:30 a.m. Demonstrations begin at 10 a.m.

The Community Fair Parade will be at noon on the Main Street of St. John.

Games at the Livestock Show Arena and fairgrounds start at 1 p.m. along with awards presentations. The Shriners Dixieland Band performs at the fairgrounds starting at 1 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., the 4H and FFA Horse Show continues.

On Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. the Cook Shack opens and the Saddle Club Play Day starts.

Registration for the Pig Putt at the St. John Golf Course will start at 9 a.m. with play beginning with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
