Serving Whitman County since 1877
Over the last few issues of the Gazette, individuals have been running ads promoting the new Tomosynthesis 3-D mammography equipment at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center.
The individuals running the ads are women who have had breast cancer. They are not seeking sympathy. Some of their trials are well known. Others have been more private.
Yet, they are publicly promoting the use of this technology because of the importance of diagnosing breast cancer at the very earliest stages.
This new, state of the art equipment now at the hospital gives more accurate and earlier reads, fewer false positives and less need to leave the area for services.
Ultimately, it can save lives.
It is an important advance at the hospital—so important in fact that the hospital foundation has committed $75,000 towards it. The foundation will further match dollar for dollar any donations made through May towards the cost of this equipment up to an additional $50,000.
The hospital has made a serious investment to fight a serious disease. The foundation has made a serious investment as well.
Tomosynthesis 3-D imaging can be a vital diagnostic tool and can give women a head start in the fight against this pernicious cancer.
More important, this new imaging can improve diagnosis, care and outcomes.
The women publicly speaking out know how important that is.
