Bailey vocalist

will perform

at Tekoa show

Julia Keefe, one of the modern jazz singers who has recorded a tribute to Tekoa’s Mildred Bailey, will perform Saturday, April 25, with the Master Class Jazz Orchestra at Tekoa’s Empire Theater. Eighteen members strong, this group of professional musicians produces the big sound made famous by the great dance bands of the jazz era.

Keefe, who is part Nez Perce, has been described as having a voice for a different era. Mildred Rinker Bailey, who was raised in Tekoa until the age of 13, sang with the Paul Whiteman orchestra and other big bands. She was the subject of a Mildred Bailey Comes Home concert performed in Spokane and Tekoa eight years ago.

Jace Fogelman, 25, will also perform Saturday. His musical journey includes 10 years preparatory study at Acadiana Symphony Conservatory of Music. He studied music at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and has sung roles in Showboat, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, among others.

Admission will be $12 for adults, $5 for students, ages 5 and under free.
