Reardan ends Colfax softball unbeaten string

The season-long win string for the Colfax softball team came to an end Tuesday at Reardan when the Indians rallied in the sixth inning for a 5-2 win in the second game. The Reardan charge ended the Colfax run at 15 games.

The Bulldogs have four more league games to finish out the league run. Both double headers will be at home with Northwest Christian here Saturday, and Davenport visiting Tuesday.

Both of the visitors are now tracking Colfax with the NWC test Saturday booked as a key challenge

Tuesday at Reardan the Bulldogs opened with an 11-2 win in the first inning with 12 hits. Pitcher Erica Eng held the hosts to just two hits, walked four batters and struck out 15.

Sarah Appel topped the Colfax hitters with two singles and a triple. Other Colfax hitters were Kori Goodwin, triple; Eng, single and double; Andra Hamilton, single; Kindra Kneale, two singles; and Jolee Aeschliman, three singles.

Coach Terry Eng noted the Bulldogs also put together a solid game in the second round, but the Indians managed to flip it over in the bottom of the sixth.

Colfax had a 2-1 lead, but Reardan cracked two of their three hits in order in the bottom of the sixth to score four runs and post the 5-2 lead.

Colfax batters in the top of the last-chance seventh went down in order with three fly balls.

Goodwin and Amara Huber each had two of the seven Colfax hits. Other hitters were Appel, Roxanne Allenbach and Sidney Sheer.

The NE softball league consists of 10 teams who make up the 20-game league run. The league tally is one less than the softball slate because St. George’s did not field a softball team this year.
