NWC bumps Colfax in district championship

Northwest Christian bumped Colfax 8-4 Tuesday night in the NE title game at Merkel Field in Spokane to win the top slot for the regional competition. Colfax, which finished with a split Tuesday, finished in second place.

The teams will return to Merkel Saturday where the Bulldogs will face Asotin in the opening regional round at 11 a.m. A win in the first game guarantees a ticket to the state finals the following week.

Five state tickets are available for the eight teams that will be in the SE-NE regional Saturday.

Asotin is the number-three qualifier out of the SE behind DeSales and Dayton.

Colfax will go into the next round with a 20-2 record.

Northwest Christian Tuesday scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the NE title. The Crusaders bagged 15 hits off Colfax hurler Erica Eng, and they pulled off a strong bunting game.

Eng struck out eight NWC batters and walked just one.

Colfax scored four runs off nine hits with Andra Hamilton rapping three singles for two RBIs. Eng singled and doubled, and also booked two RBIs.

Goldie Akesson doubled, and Sarah Appel, Kori Goodwin and Abbie Miller all rapped singles.

In the opening round Tuesday, the Bulldogs defeated Davenport 6-1 with Eng allowing just two hits and striking out 11.

Colfax scored their six runs with Appel, Eng, Goodman, Amara Huber, Brittany Lewis and Jolee Aeschliman each tagging a single.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning and added one run in each of the last three innings.
