Graduation tally up and down for county schools

In the next two weeks, Whitman County schools will award 306 diplomas, up just one from last year’s 305, even with five districts—including Pullman—dropping in numbers. The slight increase is due to big jumps in Colfax and Tekoa, the two schools combined providing an increase of 16 graduates.

In addition to Colfax and Tekoa, St. John/Endicott and Garfield/ Palouse will also see an increase in graduation numbers.

The four schools will graduate 111 seniors, up by 19 from the 92 they graduated in 2014.

In addition to Pullman, other schools with fewer graduates will be Colton, LaCrosse, Oakesdale, and Rosalia.

All commencement ceremonies will be Saturday, June 6, with the exceptions of St. John/Endicott, which will have commencement June 7 and Rosalia which has scheduled June 13.

At Colfax High School, the class of 2015 is expected to total 49 seniors, an increase of seven over last year. The 42 2014 Colfax grads marred a drop of 14 from the previous year. The ceremony will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Colfax High School gym.

At Colton, 14 students will graduate Saturday, a drop of three from 2014. The ceremony will be at Red Barn Farms located at 501 Wawawai Road, weather permitting, at 11 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to St. Boniface Church located at 205 S. St. Boniface Street in Uniontown.

LaCrosse will graduate five students—all boys—Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Plowman Gym. LaCrosse graduated nine students in 2014.

At Garfield-Palouse High School, 27 students will receive their diplomas Saturday, an increase of two from 25 students the previous year. The ceremony will be in the high school gym at 1 p.m.

The Oakesdale class of 2015 is half the size of the 2014 class, dropping from eight to four. The four students will walk across the stage for their diplomas at the high school gym Saturday at 1 p.m.

Tekoa High School will see 16 seniors walk and receive their diplomas compared with seven in 2014. The ceremony Saturday will be at 1 p.m. in the high school gym

Pullman High School expects to graduate 156 seniors at 5 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum Saturday, dropping by four from last year’s 160. PHS also dropped in numbers in 2014, decreasing by 16 from 176 in 2013.

St. John/Endicott will graduate one more student this year than last year with 19 students set to receive their diplomas at 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school gym.

Finally, in Rosalia 16 students are set to graduate, compared with 19 in 2014. Their ceremony will take place June 13 at 2 p.m. at the high school.
