Parker Warwick off to a fast start in the 100 meter hurdles at the state track meet Saturday.
Colfax competitors put down some strong marks at the 2B track finals which were part of the three-division state show over the weekend at Roos Field.
In some cases the big marks were bumped by even bigger marks from state competitors from other corners of the state.
Colfax girls, the defending champions, finished in fourth place with 52 points while their NE league rivals, the LRS Broncos, took the team win with 74 points.
Coach Jason Cooper noted the Bulldog girls rolled up all their points without a senior on the team; so this year’s finish bodes well for the future.
Junior Scout Cai finished with 29 total points, more than half the Colfax total. Scout topped the pole vault with an 11-6. She won the event last year with an 11-0. This year she came close to clearing 11-10 which would have been a meet record.
Saturday, Scout Cai and Olivia Pakootas of Tekoa/Rosalia waged their last duel in the high jump. Pakootas, a senior, took the win in the district and regional rounds, but those were on days when Cai was shuttling among four different events. The three-day stretch for the state show allowed Cai to save energy, and she managed to clear 5-4 on her first attempt. Both finalists made it over 5-3.
Cai also pulled out a 26.5 Saturday in the 200 sprint to place second behind the Toledo torpedo, Regyn Gaffney who clocked a 25.82. Gaffney also won the 100.
Colfax senior Sam Dailey had his best day of the season with a 13-0 in the pole vault, an event he won last year at 12-6.
Austin Zeller of Davenport also topped out for the season with a 14-0 to take the vault title this year.
The top performance event of the day was booked in the discus where Colfax senior Josh Brown uncorked a 171-8 on the last sling of his career.
Brown, however, was competing in the shadow of North Bend’s Caleb Bridge who threw at 185-7. That mark was the top throw booked in all of the state divisions last Saturday and added more than 13 feet to the state 2B mark.
The best sling by Bridge landed less the five feet short of the 190 mark, the last arch mark on the discus green Saturday.
Colfax boys finished in 11th place with 19 points.
Rosalia junior sprinter Eli Richardson finished the state show for the TR Timberwolves with a photo finish in the 200 sprint with Raymond’s Rayce Newman. Times on the finish were 23.19 for Newman, who dominated the sprints, and 23.15 for Richardson.
