Green Hollow picnic

The Green Hollow potluck picnic will be July 8, at 6 p.m., at Schmuck Park’s covered dining area. Current and former resident of the neighborhool are encouraged to attend.

Horse Crazy

Tekoa Empire Theatre will feature Horse Crazy, a women's western music trio, July 18 at 7 p.m. The trio was one of the finalists with their album and song in 2012 for the Western Music Association awards.

Their latest recording; “My Horse Knows The Way Home” hit number two on the Top 20 Cowboy Western Music Playlist and remained in the Top 20 for 18 months.

Since 2000, the band has produced five award winning albums while performing across the United States and Canada.

The band has performed for Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, airing on more than 500 NPR, PBS and Armed Forces Radio stations.

Lauralee Northcott leads with frontline bass. Jennifer Epps plays harmonica, and Judy Coder plays swing guitar.

Tickets are sold at the box office or via telephone at 509-284-2000. General seating is adults $12, students $8 and children under 5 are free.

Dahmen books

Dahmen Barn Saturday, July 11, will feature Richard Kriehn, master of the stringed instrument. He plays on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, produced by American Public Media, which is broadcast each week locally on Northwest Public Radio. This performance is to celebrate “Hop, Skip, Jump”, his latest CD release.

On the classical side, he has performed with numerous orchestras and was principal second violin for the Washington/Idaho Symphony.

Richard came from Boise to Washington State University in 2004 to obtain his Master of Arts in Music. His teaching assistant status quickly changed to instructing students in violin/viola, guitar, mandolin and guitar.

This performance will include three of Richard’s musician friends accompanying him on bass, guitar and fiddle.

Doors in the new addition at the Dahmen Barn open at 6:15 for the 7 p.m. concert. Admission is $15 at the door.

Library closures

All 14 branches of Whitman County Library will be closed Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5 for Independence Day. Due dates for library materials have been extended in anticipation of the closure and no late fines will be charged for these days. Drop boxes remain available at all locations for returned items. Access to the library’s catalog, downloadable audio and eBooks, and other online resources, including the rural heritage digital collection, are available by visiting the library’s website.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS

Rosalia Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club will tour the Art Studio and Gardens of Nona Hengen, 3508 E Spangle Waverly Rd at 6 p.m. July 8. This is a change in time from the garden club yearbook listing .

Following the tour, Lillian and Laura Fulton will host members for refreshments at their home in Plaza. Guests are welcome but they need to call the program chairman Mary Ann Bowman to let her know. This is the last meeting until October but members are reminded to continue grooming the Rosalia Mini-Park on Monday mornings.

Bolen, Evalynn Jean, born June 18 at seven pounds, 12 ounces, to Andrea Lumley and Robert Bolen of Lewiston, Idaho. Paternal grandparents are Loren and Linda Bolen of Pierce, Idaho. Maternal grandparents are Dave and Laura Lumley of Lewiston, Idaho. The baby joins brothers Reese, 9, and Chase, 7.
