Serving Whitman County since 1877
This year’s ice cream social will mix in old and new attractions Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
at the historic Perkins House in Colfax.
This will be the 43rd edition of the event which is the annual major fundraising event for the Whitman County Historical Society.
Ken Vogel, former long-time Pullman clothier and former society president, has been heading arrangements for the event.
Vogel reported Tuesday one new feature planned will be the addition of canopies in the Perkins yard to shade the audience.
He was making arrangements this week because of the prediction for three-digit temperatures.
The featured band this year will be Auf Gehts in place of the Snake River Six.
One of the key attractions on the program again will be a fashion revue featuring gowns which are part of the society’s historic collection.
Vintage cars, tractors and fire trucks will be stationed around the house.
Vogel has also recruited the Lewiston/Clarkston Train club to bring their HO gauge train layout for display in the yard.
Lewis-Clark Antique Power club will also have a display.
Author book signings will be done by Marty Mullen, “Reflections of the Road;” Sally Elder, “Best of Palouse Magazine” and Dave Benscooter, “Apples & Apple Trees in Whitman County.” A display of rural Whitman County photos and quilts by the Whitman Samplers Group will also be featured.
Home made pies and ice cream from Ferdinand’s will again be features, and hamburgers and hot dogs will also be available.
Residents who would like to donate a pie are encouraged to contact Loretta Paulson in Colfax.
