Hospital and Foundation representatives stand with a $75,000 check presented to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center by the Whitman County Hospital Foundation.

The check was presented to the hospital last Thursday for the Tomosynthesis Fund for the new 3-D mammography machine recently installed at the hospital.

The machine comes at a cost of $500,000.

“This was really a must do because it’s so much better than 2-D mammography,” Marler said.

The 3-D machine has a 40 percent higher success rate at detecting breast cancer, Wilson said.

“It’s just as good as I thought it would be,” she said.

“It’s very exciting and it’s a whole lot easier [to operate] than it used to be.” Marler also said more funding should be on the way for the hospital soon.
