Population tally set for release

Whitman County Commissioners discussed the estimated 2015 population figures at the commissioner's meeting held June 15.

The estimations come from the Washington State Office of Financial Management, and the numbers are expected to be released to the public June 30.

The numbers will detail where each city and town in the state stood in population as of April 1, 2015. They also compare to the 2010 census, as well as estimations from 2011-2014.

The 2010 census put the Whitman County population at 44,776, and the 2014 estimate showed growth, putting the population at 46,500.

Since the census, Colfax has been dropping since 2012, first dropping by 15, then 10 in 2013 and another 15 in 2014. Most of the cities and towns around the county have seen fluctuating numbers since the census, with only Pullman and Uniontown seeing consistent increases.
