Zornes tourney marks 8th year

The 8th annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament was June 20, in Colfax. The tournament raises funds in support of the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship at Washington State University. Golfers enjoyed lunch, an 18- hole scramble, a catered Italian dinner, and silent auction.

Top Team Honors for the day with a score of 57 went to the team of Jake Stewart, Palouse; Ted Melton, Colfax; Wade Winegardner and Josh Bray, both of Pullman.

Tied for second-place with 60s were the Inland Cellular group of Darren Malm, Will Gillespie, Alyssa Nilsson, Robert Loesch of Moscow, and the team of Cary Hall, Chris Niles, Ken Niles, and Rich Zimmerman team.

The coveted Highest Team Score honors and specially designed shirts went to Michael Bohm, new manager of Shopko Pullman, and his crew of Michael Howard, Matt Shovlowski and Caleb Schneider.

Winning a Carnival Cruise for his putting was Chris Niles, St. John, sinking a 20-foot putt in a hotly contested shoot-off. Other finalists were Wade Winegardner, Doug Benedict; Liberty Lake, Rich Zimmerman and Cary Hall.

Longest drive and closest-to-the-Hole contests were won by Seth Thomas of Boise and Jason Reed of Oakesdale. Each won two tickets to a major sporting event of their choice.

Concluding the day was a grand prize drawing for a Cancun Getaway for two. The winner was Pam Benedict, Liberty Lake.

Special guests of the day included Dr. Bryan Slinker, dean of the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine, and his wife, Kathy. Also, Dr. Joe Harding, one of Zornes’ WSU neuroscience mentors, and his wife, Barbara, spent the day as did Rachelle Riggers, the 2015 Zornes scholar.

Emiko Nametame Van Wie, the first recipient of the Zornes Scholarship in 2008 and a graduate of WSU School of Veterinary Medicine also attended. Emiko is now with Christian Veterinary Mission, challenging and mobilizing veterinarians to participate in long-term international veterinary development work.

Other volunteers included Lynn Haley, Halle Wiemar, Lindsey Cannon, Monica Bando, Randal Bettman and Terri Driessen, all with WSU. Rounding out the crew were Shelly Lobdell and husband Todd; Farmington, Tom and Gena Reich, Kennewick; Mike Stack, Oakesdale; Myndi Stout, Colfax and Kai Seshiki of Pullman’s Summit Therapy.
