'Cougar Zip' sentence

Gurinder Kaur, 27, Pullman, was placed on one year of community custody and ordered to pay fines and fees totaling $6,500 after she pleaded guilty June 26 to two charges of theft and two counts of identify theft. The one-year of community custody will be under the supervision of the state department of corrections.

Kaur pleaded guilty to the four charges May 14.

According to the Pullman Police report, Kaur was charged after investigation of multiple reports from out-of-area residents who found unauthorized charges on their credit card billings.

Officers also received a report of packages being delivered to unoccupied houses in Pullman. In one instance a delivery was made to a residence which was in the process of being moved.

Investigation of the purchases led officers to Kaur, who was employed at the American Travel Inn on S. Grand in Pullman. Police determined Kaur had used the credit cards of guests at the motel to make purchases at area stores and then had the purchases delivered to houses in Pullman which were unoccupied.

Police also learned that Kaur had created a Cougar Zip company, and used the credit cards to make payments to the firm which became a source of cash for her. The investigation report noted the Cougar Zip account had 121 transactions with a total of $6,495.

The listing of Cougar Zip transactions included numbers which had yet to be traced to the card holders at the time of the investigation report.
