Dusty residents celebrate Fourth

Dusty

Dick and Helen Appel family gathered for a family reunion at Camp Rambelwood near Sequim. Forty-seven family members enjoyed clam digging, kayaking, hiking, eating and visiting. The weekend was organized by Barb Wollstein and Bruce Appel.

Those attending were Dick and Helen Appel, Dusty; Barb and Bruce Wollstein, Lacey; Beth, David and Kristin Lohrmeyer, Kate and Elliot Moon, Auburn; Jo and Pat Corrigan, Bellevue; Deb and Bob Stavig, Hockinson; Jessica and Kyle Wanke, Ridgefield; Bruce, Elaine, Charlie and Spencer Appel, Hamilton, Massachusetts; Phil Appel, Cheney; Eric, Shannon, Connor, Christopher, Sarah, Kyle and Sidney Appel, Dusty; Caroline, Rob, Zack, Kade, Ellie and Luciene Kunkel, Pullman; Neil, Liz, Josh, Noemie, Issac and John Paul Appel, Dusty; Lisa, Travis, Miriam, Rachel, Emma and Colette Frei, Palouse; and Jim Appel and Catie Fairgrieve, Dusty. The weather was great, in the 70s, while Dusty was much warmer.

Charlie and Spencer Appel will spend two weeks with their grandparents, Dick and Helen Appel, before returning to Massachusetts to pack prior to moving to Spokane.

Blake Heaton remains in I.C.U. at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. The Heaton children and grandchildren are carrying on with harvest.

Recent visitors at the home of Keith and Lelia Zaring were her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Bob Bell, from Laurel, Miss. The Bells spent a week with the Zarings.

Sharon Urtaza of Las Cruces, N.M., returned to her home on Monday, July 6, after spending two weeks at the homes of her aunt, Fran Jones, and cousin Bryan Jones. Sharon is the eldest daughter of the late Virginia Jones Edwards and the late Neal Edwards.

Art and Colene Sager flew to Caldwell, Idaho, and spent July 3 at Colene’s aunt’s home, Herbert and Delila Morrison, in Middleton, Idaho. Colene’s cousins and their families were visiting from Phoenix, Ariz. Art’s brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Linda Sager of Meridian, were their hosts for the next two days. July 4th was spent enjoying three generations of Art’s clan. The Sagers reported beautiful, clear skies on Friday but returned home to smoke filled skies from forest fires Sunday evening.

Lucky and Joan Myrick spent July 4th in Moses Lake with Rich and Janetta, Rich’s daughter Deanna Myrick of Spanaway, Jannetta’s daughter, Kirsten Johnson of Moses Lake and many of their friends and family.

Ed and Joan Broeckel’s daughter Amber and her friend Dom spent the weekend with the Broeckel’s. Saturday, they hosted a barbecue and other guests included their other daughter Jennifer, Janice and Norm Pauls and Deanna, Tracy, Addison, Carrie, Jason and Levi. They also went to Pullman to watch the fireworks. Jennifer, Amber and Dom returned to their homes Sunday.

Linda Hennigar spent July 4th with her daughter’s family in the Tri-Cities. Tami, Jay and Wesley Banks hosted a party to celebrate the co-birthdays of the U.S.A. and Tami Banks. The U.S.A. is much older.

Mark and Andrea Davis of Coeur d’Alene, granddaughter of David and Phyllis Stueckle, spent the night at the home of the Stueckles. Sunday, the Davis’s attended church at the Onecho Bible Church and will spend the next week helping with their Bible camp. The Davis’s are missionaries.

Dinner guests at the home of Oscar Broeckel were Brian and Angela Broeckel, Tom and Doreen Riedner, Karen Broeckel, all of Dusty; and Tony and Denise Kendall of Tacoma.

Country Bible Church will not be holding services Sunday, July 12, at the church. The congregation plans on joining other community churches in fellowship and worship at “Church in the Park” at Schmuck Park in Colfax. Services will begin at 10:30. Special speaker will be from the Union Gospel Mission in Spokane. Lunch will be served after services. Bring lawn chairs and a salad or dessert. Burgers and beverages will be provided.

Larry and Di Brink picked up Tom Phillips, Las Vegas, from the Spokane airport on Wednesday, July 1.

They then joined Camille Patterson of Spokane Valley for lunch.

After shopping in Spokane, they met John, Brandi and Myla Brink for supper in Colfax.

Thursday, Kevin, Amber, Ashley, Kloey and Nick Brink, Kennewick, and John and his family joined them at the Brink home.

They had an early celebration of the Fourth with a picnic and sparklers.

Also participating in the celebration were Carol and Don Keeney and Mike Stine of LaCrosse and Lucky and Joan Myrick of Dusty.

Friday noon, Josh Bay joined the group.

Friday evening the exodus began with Kevin and his family and John and his family returning to their respective homes.

Mike Stine again joined them Sunday for the day.

Tuesday, Tom and Josh left to visit Kevin and family.

Wednesday, they planned to leave for Seattle and Tom will return to Las Vegas Saturday.
