One grain truck saw its last harvest when it fell victim to a field fire July 21 on Olson Road west of Palouse. In addition to the truck, the fire burned 90 acres, 15 of which were still standing grain. According to Palouse Fire Chief Mike Bagott, the fire started some distance away from the truck. Although harvest fires are rare in that district, Palouse responded to two in the same week. “We’re hoping we’re done, but we’re expecting to be out again,” Bagott said, citing the dry weather and high winds as prevalent factors.
