Wood art display
slated at Dahmen
Eleven of the finest woodworkers in the region will present a "Medley in Wood” display Aug. 2-30 at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown An opening reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with many of the artists present.
Functional items along with sculptural art pieces, furniture, turned bowls, vessels and other works will be on display.
Woodworkers participating are Ben Carpenter, Stephanie Miller, Ed Krumpe, Ron Sack, Eric Stauber, Kristin LeVier, Jim Christiansen, Geoff Crimmins, and Will Simpson, all from Moscow; Jerry Johnson, Kennewick, and Jim Swift, Richland.
Christiansen worked with regional woodworkers and the Dahmen Barn to coordinate the exhibit. He shares his studio with many aspiring wood turners.
Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Concert by Eric E
As part of the Pullman Parks summer concert series, Eric E. will perform a mixture of acoustic rock, blues and jazz at the Pine Street Plaza in Pullman Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Cup O'Joe meet
Entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to attend the next Cup O'Joe Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Crimson Commerce Club, a new co-work space at the Pullman Armory, 540 East Main Street, Pullman.
Peter A. Volk will discuss legal issues. Coffee is provided. The event is sponsored by the Whitman County office of Southeast Washington Economic Development Association.
Garage sale day
set for 3 towns
Tekoa, Latah and Rockford are coordinating a three-town garage sale for Saturday, Aug. 1.
Residents are signing up in each town. Maps for each garage sale in each town will be available at sales in each town.
Sales will start at 8 a.m. and run until about 4 p.m.
Colfax grads luncheon
Next Spokane Colfax alumni luncheon will be in Spokane at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Timber Creek Buffet located in the Argonne Village Shopping Center, 9211 East Montgomery, Millwood, Spokane. They plan to celebrate Marge Kruger Hill’s 100th birthday. Everyone is welcome.
Library to close
for maintenance
All 14 branches of Whitman County library will be closed next week, Monday, Aug. 3, through Sunday, Aug. 9, for annual maintenance week. Staff members will upgrade systems and work on facility projects which cannot be done while the libraries are open.
Due dates for library materials have been extended in anticipation of the closure and no late fines will be charged. Drop boxes will remain open.
Fiber arts shop
slated at Dahmen
Ellen Kundrat, a textile artist in residence at the Dahmen Barn, will conduct a flower and leaf pounding workshop at the Barn Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. This topic is geared to teens through adults, and the cost is $42 with registrations required by Aug. 3.
The pounding process transfers the pigment of leaves and flowers onto fabric, creating a floral design. Colors transferred range from vibrant to muted, with some specimens being more co-operative than others.

Hill Ray news
John Kromm, son of the late Sue Kromm, was recently elected to the board at Hill Ray Plaza. He replaces former board member Audrey Dood, who resigned due to health issues.
John works for PNW Coop and has been with them for more than 20 years. He and his wife Cindy live in Colfax with their two boys.
Hill Ray will combine with some of the neighbors on Vista Point Drive Aug. 22 for a second garage sale. They will also have an open house to show off the new business office and remaining one bedroom apartments that are still available.
The board will meet for a special session this week to work on a new budget for 2016.
