A Garfield Public Works employee will have his Commercial Driver's License training paid for in a deal passed by the city council after some debate.
In the July 8 meeting, Mayor Ray McCown advocated that Mark Phillips needed to get a CDL and thus the town should pay for it.
Phillips completed the federally mandated 80-hour course last week at a facility in Spokane at a cost of $2,800. He was also paid by the town for his hours during training.
At the July meeting, Councilwoman Sharon Schnebly said that if the CDL was a requirement for the job, Phillips should be responsible for the cost.
