Russell family, Penawawa growers conduct reunions

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, Di Brink and Joan Myrick went to Spokane Valley to visit with their cousin, Camille Patterson. They spent two days laughing, eating and shopping. Wednesday, they went to Green Bluff and visited High Country where they shopped and had some wonderful pie.

Susan Russel, former Whitman County resident, and her family, of Portland, were guests at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast, arriving on Monday and staying through Saturday.

A Russel family picnic was at the Colfax park with approximately 40 members attending. Thursday evening, Susan and her family were dinner guests of Tina Ochs of Palouse. Friday evening, Jon and Li Ochs joined them for dinner at The Parsonage.

Saturday, the annual Penawawa Orchard Growers and Friends reunion was at Warm Springs Ranch. Locals who attended included David and Phyllis Stueckle, Bryan Jones, Jon and Li Ochs, Duane and Tarri Steiger and Geraldine and nearly three month old Gunnar Hexie Scholz.

Graveside services for Hallie Vogler Goodrich were held at the Dusty Cemetery Saturday. She was 101 years old. She and her first husband, Manuel Vogler, were early Dusty farmers. Ed Vogler, Ben Lomond, Calif., and Kay Brooks, Billings, Mont., were her children who attended.

Guenter and Brigitte Scherwinski, Mountain Home, Idaho, parents of Angela Broeckel, arrived at the Broeckel home to spend the weekend. They got in on the end of harvest for the Broeckel crew.

Also arriving for a week’s visit was Angela’s daughter Alex BeDell and Kyle Zartman of Portland. Saturday evening, the family and guests Oscar Broeckel, Denise Kendall of Tacoma and Karen Broeckel helped Graham celebrate his 20th birthday.

Linda Hennigar and Jim Moore attended a Haugness family reunion Saturday afternoon in Spokane at the home of Mick and Jill Lee. This was a reunion of Linda’s mother’s, Altona Wigen, side of the family. Also attending was Altona’s only remaining living sibling, Dagmar Kirking and her husband Marv of Sandpoint; Goldie Foss, Norm and Gloria Erickson of Colfax; Gracia Stueckle of Seattle and Dave and Elaine Hogan of Richland. In all, there were about 20 people in attendance.
