Truck crash takes life of LaX man

Trevor Bennett, 22, LaCrosse, was fatally injured in a semi-truck accident Tuesday afternoon at the bottom of the Wawawai Grade. Kyle Fuller, 32, also of LaCrosse, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and transported to St. Joe's Hospital in Lewiston, according to a report by Sgt. Chris Chapman of the Whitman County Sheriff's department.

Chapman said Bennett was identified as the driver of the truck, a 1992 International, and Fuller was a passenger in the truck. Sheriff's deputies, Washington State Patrol troopers and ambulance crews responded to the scene which was at the bottom of the Wawawai grade. They were advised the occupants of the truck were trapped inside of the cab.

Upon arrival deputies found the semi truck resting on its cab on top of a guard rail while the trailer of the vehicle rested on the rock embankment above the Snake River.

Wawawai Road was closed for six hours while deputies and the Washington State Patrol investigated the accident. The cause of the accident was still under investigation, Chapman reported Wednesday morning.

The accident was reported at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
