Serving Whitman County since 1877
Irish-Australian storyteller Joe Lynch will perform folk tales, yarns, poetry and original stories Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Budding Rose Gallery in Rosalia beginning at 7 p.m. Admission will be by donation.
Born in the foothills of the Cork and Kerry mountains of Ireland, he emigrated to Australia 30 years ago. Lynch carried the stories of the traveling shanachies, or storytellers, who recounted the ancient Celtic myths and tales, full of wisdom, romance and mystery. He has performed in many Australian festivals including the annual National Folk Festival in the nation’s capital. Known as “Irish Joe Lynch,” he still retains his Irish accent. Local cowboy poet Dick Warwick of Oakesdale has seen Joe in action and calls him “spellbinding.”
