Rev. Ed Hamshar was born in Priest River, Idaho. He grew up with four siblings on a farm his grandmother homesteaded.

New to Whitman County are the Rev. Ed and Mrs. Nila Hamshar from Benton City. Rev. Hamshar is pastor to the United Methodist Churches in Colfax and St. John. They reside in the parsonage in St. John.
