Rosalia library projects mark 10 years in Porter building

The Alice Porter Memorial Library is celebrating 10 years of serving the Rosalia community with several improvement projects both inside and outside the library building. The building, previously the Ladybug Drive-In, was donated by the Porter family to be used by the town as a library.

Earlier this spring, newly elected town council member Paige Collins spearheaded a fund-raiser that purchased a beautiful children’s rug featuring ladybugs, the Rosalia library theme, in honor of the library’s Ladybug Drive-In past. The cheerful colors brighten the kids’ corner and make Preschool Storytime easier as children “find a letter” to sit on.

The Rosalia Public Works Department recently began painting the exterior of the building, staying with the previous colors of pale blue and white.

During the annual library maintenance week, Aug. 3-9, library branch manager Marcy Campbell, along with volunteers and library staff, painted the interior.

The eight day process began with a Boxing Party Sunday night, Aug. 2, when all library materials were boxed and safely stored, and continued until late Monday evening, Aug. 10, when the final touches were added to the book shelves. Work was completed by the library branch manager, a library assistant, a community service worker, a Rural Resources employee and six volunteers and totaled about 120 hours.

Residents and visitors are invited to stop in to see the improvements and explore the library during regular open hours, Tuesday and Saturday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Thursday evening, from 3 until 7 p.m. More information is available by calling the Rosalia library at 509-523-3109.
