ST. IGNATIUS SPOOK TOUR?

Among other projects mentioned Tuesday during the tour of St. Ignatius Hospital and grounds was the possible use of the ground floor of the hospital for a Halloween spook house. St. Ignatius, which has stood vacant for years, has occasionally attracted juveniles who are intrigued by the high ceilings and hallways of the building.

Among local residents who accompanied Anthony Girges, owner of St. Ignatius, and Sammy Girges, was Val Gregory, whose joint executive assignment includes the Colfax Downtown Association.

City Administrator Michael Rizzitiello said the Girges duo was receptive to using the bottom floor for some type of spook tour which could be in the mode of the Haunted Palouse event which has been successful at Palouse.

Rizzitiello said one idea would be to offer a St. Ignatius tour in some type of tandem arrangement with Haunted Palouse.

SMOKE STOPS WSU EVENTS

Smoke from forest fires Sunday led to cancellation of WSU outdoor events to mark the start of the fall semester in Pullman. An all-student barbecue and a five kilometer color run were among planned events.

Saturday, the smoke in Pullman led to cancellation of the Tour de Lentil bicycle race which was scheduled to loop through Colfax.

The particulate rating on the Department of Ecology site at Pullman Monday morning was .236 which qualifies in the “very unhealthy” bracket.

Worst smoke for the Colfax area hit Friday night with some clearing Saturday morning and then more smoke Sunday.

Other readings Monday morning were .183 at LaCrosse and .184 at Rosalia.

The origin of smoke here over the weekend was believed to have been the Clearwater Valley fires in the Kamiah area which also brought heavy smoke to the Lewiston-Clarkston and Moscow areas.
