Contributions for Kamiah

Two loads of relief contributions for the residents of the Kamiah area departed Colfax Friday. Tammy Lewis, who coordinated the local drive here, transported the goods to Pullman where they were loaded into a 40-foot trailer which Pullman Memorial Hospital later used to deliver the donations to the town on the Clearwater River.

Also, Colfax Thrifty Grandmothers donated $1,000 to the project in the form of 20 $50 cash cards. Another $350 in cash donations was also delivered to Kamiah, Lewis said.

Sunday, Lewis, Jill Morgan and Darlene Kroll hauled more donated supplies to the Life Center at Kamiah, which is the location of the relief operation there. The load included frozen bread donated by Rosauers.

Lewis reported the Life Center at Kamiah is now packed with donations "from everywhere," and the call for additional supplies has been suspended. She noted storage units, including a refrigerator truck, have been added to the grounds around the center.

The Colfax trio worked at the Kamiah center Sunday and part of Monday before returning home.

Lewis said the fire danger has passed in Kamiah, but residents there are dealing with a smoke level which is far worse that what has been in this area.

Events on Main was the collection point for the Colfax donations.
