TREVOR BENNETT

A graveside service for Trevor Bennett, 22, LaCrosse, was Monday morning at the LaCrosse Cemetery with the Rev. John Cross officiating. Mr. Bennett was fatally injured last Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, in a semi truck accident at the bottom of the Wawawai grade next to the Snake River.

Born Dec. 1, 1992, in Colfax to Jimmy and Dena Bennett, he was raised in LaCrosse and graduated from LaCrosse High School with the class of 2011. He was employed as a field service technician with the McGregor Company.

Mr. Bennett enjoyed hunting, shooting sports and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the LaCrosse Gun Club and the LaCrosse Fire Department.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother and sister-in-law, Cody and Trish Bennett, LaCrosse; his grandparents, Richard and Lois Berry, LaCrosse; and Larry and Joan Bennett, Willow, Alaska; a great-grandfather, Robert Bennett, Clarkston.

RONALD HERMANSON

Ronald Eldon Hermanson, 82, longtime Pullman resident and retired WSU agriculture engineering specialist, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Whitman Senior Living. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman with the Rev. Wesley Howell officiating. 

Born to Emil and Ruth Olson Hermanson in Kiester, Minn., March 31, 1933, he grew up in Scarville, Iowa, where he graduated as valedictorian and president of the class of 1950. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

In 1953, he met his wife Franceen Nelson at a local drive-in where she worked as a roller-skating waitress. They were married in Lake Mills, Iowa, July 8, 1955.

Ron earned three degrees at Iowa State University: an undergraduate degree in 1958, a master’s in 1964 and his doctorate in water resource engineering in 1967. He was a faculty member at Auburn University in Alabama before accepting a position at Washington State University in the winter of 1972. He worked for WSU extension as an agricultural engineering specialist for more than 30 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Gamma Sigma Delta, Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers as well as the American Geophysical Union.

He enjoyed working with his hands building curio cabinets for his family as well as tinkering on anything in the garage — cars, small engines or woodworking. Ron was an avid photographer and enjoyed gathering everyone at the house for slide shows.

Surviving are his wife, Franceen, at the family home in Pullman; daughter Julie Hermanson of Pullman; sons Mark (Fran) Hermanson of Pullman and Michael (Lynn) Hermanson of Tacoma and five grandchildren.
