Pirates, Wildcats head for collision

Nighthawks Corynn Anderson, Aliya Rutledge, Madison Shrope and Logan Reed head for the baseline Thursday after topping the SJE Eagles in three games on the Oakesdale court.

Colton's Wildcats and the Pomeroy Pirates, two teams which have been rolling through the SE volleyball league, will collide today on the Colton court to see who will take the top spot in the standings. Both teams are undefeated with 6-0 records.

Pomeroy Tuesday night came close to the brink Tuesday night at Oakesdale when they dropped the first two games to the tough Nighthawk team. The Pirates managed to battle back to take the the next two and resolve the 2-2 tie with a 15-8 in the decider.

Line score the the Pirate win was 23-25 15-25 25-18 25-13 and the 15-8.

The loss dropped the Nighthawks' record to 4-2 with their other loss coming in the Colton clash.

Logan Reed hit three aces and booked six blocks and 13 kills against the Pirates. Jacey Johnson hit 19 kills and Maddy Shrope put up 35 assists

Pomeroy Coach Jim Greene credited freshman Carmen Gingerich with coming off the bench and getting the serves needed to stop the quick Nighthawk team. Esther Schuh hit 18 kills for the Pirates in the showdown match.

Colton traveled to Touchet Tuesday and downed the hosts in four games, 25-17 23-25 25-23 and 25-19. Zoe Moser hit 19 kills for the Wildcats, and Jordyn Moehrole booked 15 digs. MaryAnn Jacobs was credited with 28 assists, and Emma Schultheis had six blocks.

Colton in the Thursday round took out Liberty Christian in three games, 25-13 25-16 and 25-6 with Moser rapping 16 kills and Jacobs booking 21 assists.

Oakesdale went into the Tuesday round after stopping St. John/Endicott in three games last Thursday on the Oakesdale court, 25-15 25-18 and 25-14. Johnson hit 10 kills and Shrope lofted 24 assists. Lindsey Lindgren hit three aces.

In other league action tie Tuesday, St. John/Endicott stopped Garfield/Palouse in four games on the Eagles' court. The Viking girls took the opener 25-22, but the Eagles came back with 25-23 25-18 and 26-24 to get the match win which advanced their record to 42.

Abby Glorfield had eight kills, five aces and 18 digs for the Eagles, and Gracie Dickerson had eight kills, nine assists, and seven aces. Aja Schmick booked 25 digs and three aces, and Caitlyn Blumenshein had six assists, two kills and seven digs. Hunter Hollingsworth had nine kills, and Jadyn Corder had five kills and two blocks.

Payson Griner hit seven kills and seven blocks for the Vikings and Katie Holbrook had 11 assists and four digs. Keely Burnes hit four aces for the Vikes.

In other Tuesday action, LaCrosse/Washtucna/Kahlotus defeated Liberty/Christian in four games on the court at Kahlotus. Line score for the Tigercat win was 25-9 25-8 21-26 and 25-5.

The Tigercats will host SJE today.
