With Pomeroy throwing only two passes all night, the Pirates ran St. John/Endicott 58-6 in the Eagles’ homecoming game last Friday.
Pomeroy’s Cade Gingerich ran for 134 yards and quarterback Havin Heytvelt ran for 101.
St. John-Endicott scored their lone points in the fourth quarter on a fumble recovery and runback by Luke Bailey.
“We had a problem containing the run on them,” said Eagles’ coach Ken Gering. “One opening and they were gone.”
For the Eagles, Reagan Harrison led with 75 yards rushing.
St. John-Endicott (0-3, 0-1 league) will play next at Colton Friday. The game is a rematch from last year’s 70-62 S.J.E. homecoming win.
“I would love to bring back some of that charm, but it’s gonna be a tough match,” said Gering.
Noting that the Wildcats will be the first strong passing team they face, practice this week will focus on guarding Colton receivers.
“Hopefully, we get the right person on them and they stick to them like glue,” said Gering. “Especially Chadwick. You’ve got to stay on his hip.”
Brady Chadwick, a junior receiver, has caused problems for opposing defenses in each of Colton’s games.
