The District Seven Make It With Wool Contest, coordinated by Helen Appel with assistance from Paula Baldree, was Saturday in the Public Service Building in Colfax. For 32 years, Helen has been hosting the contest for this multi-county region in the state. Entering the contest this year were Shannon and Sidney Appel, Colfax; and Ellyanna Kunkel, Pullman.
Sidney Appel, wearing her medium blue, crepe wool and gabardine dress trimmed with piping, tied for first in the Pre-Teen Division with Elly Kunkel who wore a long sleeve, purple wool dress trimmed with a front yoke piping that formed a pocket.
Shannon Appel placed first in the Adult Division wearing a sleeveless black on black and white houndstooth sheath dress accented with a colorful necklace and coordinating earrings. Shannon qualified to represent District Seven at the state contest which will be held in conjunction with the Washington State Sheep Producers Convention Oct. 30 - 31, in Walla Walla.
Judges for the District Seven Make It With Wool contest were Dr. Carol Salusso, Hylen Hernandez and Devon Wood, WSU students, and Breda Fitzgerald, graduate student, all from the WSU Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles, Pullman.
