St. John-Endicott 4-H and FFA will host their annual chili feed and silent auction, Oct. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the St. John Community Bldg.

Staying Connected

Staying Connected, a four-week session for people with early stage memory loss and their care partners, will be presented by Andree Marcus-Rader from Rural Resources Wednesdays, Oct. 14 through Nov. 4, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Colfax Library. Registration is required.

LWV Brown Bag

Pullman of Public Works Director Kevin Gardes will speak on water usage, conservation and xeriscaping at the Community Congregational Church, 525 Campus Avenue Oct. 15 beginning a noon.

The public is invited to attend the brown bag session sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Quilt open house slated at Rosalia

“All Around the County” quilt created by the Whitman Samplers will be raffled off to benefit the Whitman County Library.

The Alice Porter Memorial Library in Rosalia will host a quilt open house Thursday, Oct. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. Pat Waller, Spokane area quilter, will bring a selection of quilts to display and discuss with the goal of selecting topics for future quilting classes in Rosalia in conjunction with the library and a local craft group called Mellow Mondays that meets in Rosalia’s Pinewood Cottage.

Also, an “All Around the County” quilt created by the Whitman Samplers will be on display. This quilt is being raffled by the Whitman County Library to benefit The Center addition to the Colfax branch. Tickets for the quilt are available at all WCL branches, and the drawing will be Sunday, Oct. 18, at The Soiree for the Center event, a dinner and auction.

Kristie Kirkpatrick, library director, will be at the Rosalia open house to answer questions about The Center project. Rosalia library hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Thursdays from 3 until 7 p.m.

Arbor Day correction

The Arbor Day tree planting at Schmuck Park was done by second graders at Jennings Elementary. A headline in the Sept. 24 edition listed the incorrect grade.

Ukuleles, bread making on adult class agenda

Registration is being accepted for Introduction to Ukulele and Bread Making online or at the Colfax Library. These community enrichment programs are provided at low cost with support from the Community Colleges of Spokane ACT2 series.

Ukulele Plus is offered by Scott Hallett of Colfax and will run from Oct. 14 through Nov. 4 on Wednesdays from 6-to 7:30 p.m. This class focuses upon fun rather than theory, and those who sign up will receive information about purchasing a ukulele.

Back to teach Bread Making: Basics and Beyond on Friday, Oct. 16, at 12:30 p.m. will be Kelli Collins of Joseph’s Grainery.

Guy-Albion Historical Society

Annual meeting and potluck dinner of the Guy-Albion Historical Society will be Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at town hall. Roger Farrell is stepping down as president, and Dory Lohrey-Birch is stepping down as secreatary and newsletter editor. The office of treasurer remains open.
