Charges tell tale of Malden duo

A total of 11 charges have been filed in juvenile court against Chris Thornton, the 15-year-old Malden youth who went missing for 12 days before he was arrested by officers in Pend Oreille County south of Newport Sept. 2. Thornton and Ashley Varner, 13, who also faces charges, were reported missing after they departed Malden in a 2007 Ford Taurus which was reported stolen Aug. 21.

Varner faces eight charges.

Both were scheduled for a hearing in juvenile court today Thursday.
