County approves landfill land lease

County commissioners have approved a new 10-year lease for 55 acres at the Whitman County waste transfer facility to Curt and Ed Meyer.

The agreement extends the previous 15-year lease to the Uniontown family which farms the land. The terms are the same as the previous agreement; a minimum of $60 per acre per year, depending on the price of wheat.

Whitman County Public Works Director Mark Storey indicated that the shorter lease this time is for flexibility of future plans.

“Things may change for both parties,” he said.
