Ice Age chapter meeting in LaX

The Palouse Falls Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will have their first meeting next Thursday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. at The Gathering Place in LaCrosse.

Chapter President Lloyd Stoess took the initiative to form the group recently. Stoess had been a member of the Cheney-Spokane Chapter for several years and previously told the Gazette he felt it was time for the Palouse region to have a chapter of its own to benefit the local population.

“There was really a need in this area to have our own chapter. Different people organize chapters so they can concentrate on their area,” Stoess said. “Our purpose is to help local people learn more about this incredible area we live in.”

LaCrosse Community Pride, which Stoess is a member of, is in the process of converting stone houses in LaCrosse to a museum featuring the Missoula Ice Age Floods, something the chapter will be involved with.

“We want to get the flood story out there; there are so many aspects to it,” Stoess previously said.

A description of the meeting reads, “Take an epic journey through 'An Overview of the Missoula Floods,' from northwest Montana, through northern Idaho, eastern Washington, the Washington-Oregon border and as far south as the coast of California.”

Stoess will introduce those in attendance to the mission of the Ice Age Floods Institute and detail what the newly-formed chapter will be doing.

The meeting is open to any who wish to attend.
