Union Pacific plans 100 foot tower at Hooper

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking to add a communications tower at Hooper.

The tower, which will be approximately 100 feet tall and located one mile southwest of the Highway 26 and Old 26 intersection, will be constructed for the purpose of railroad communications.

The tower will be located adjacent to the railroad, according to Francisco Castillo, director of corporate relations and media at Union Pacific. He said the tower will be part of Positive Train Control, which was mandated by Congress in 2008.

“It's a huge project all across the country for railroads,” he said.
