NATHANIEL ARMSTRONG
Nathaniel Armstrong, 67, a resident of Paul's Place in Colfax for the past three years, died Oct. 7, 2015, at Paul's Place where he had been under hospice care. He was born June 2, 1948, to Tommy and Otheller Armstrong at Chandler, Ariz., but lived most of his life in the Yakima-Sunnyside area.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m at the Bruning Chapel. He will be cremated.
PATRICK E. GALLER
Funeral Mass for Patrick E. Galler, 45, will be Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Evan Abraham Longhouse at DeSmet, Idaho. Rosary will be Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Longhouse. Father Robert Erickson, S.J., will officiate. Burial will follow at the DeSmet Mission Cemetery. Mr. Galler, a lifelong DeSmet area resident, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, evening at his DeSmet home. He had been in failing health for several years.
Born Feb. 25, 1970, at St. Maries, Idaho, to Pete and Linda Pluff Galler, he attended the tribal school at DeSmet and high school in Plummer, Idaho. In high school, Patrick was an excellent athlete, participating in football, basketball, baseball and track. Following high school, Patrick attended North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene. He married Diane Van Slyke and the couple made their home at Tekoa, and he had worked as a security guard at the Coeur d'Alene casino for many years and was a firefighter for the tribe. Patrick also had worked as a laborer on highway construction jobs on the reservation.
He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet. He enjoyed camping with his family.
Survivors include his children, Matthew Peone of Plummer, Patrick E. Galler Jr. of Plummer, Jenna Renae Galler of Post Falls and Danielle Rose Galler of Pablo, Mont .; his mother, Linda Galler at DeSmet; siblings Alice Marie Galler, Beverly Ann Galler and Anna Marie Galler, all of DeSmet, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Galler, and a daughter, Shelley Jo LittleCrow.
Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is handling the arrangements.
BETTY RUTH JANSON
Betty Ruth Janson, 93, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at Fairfield Care in Fairfield. A graveside service was Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery at Latah.
Born Feb. 21, 1922, in Miles City, Mont., she was raised on a ranch and attended schools in Miles City. During World War II she moved to Spokane and worked at Fairchild Air Force Base. She also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. She married Wilbur Janson in Portland, Ore., and they made their home near Latah where they farmed.
Betty raised three children, helped with the farming operation, and worked at the Bank of Latah. She drove truck during harvest and still found time to become an artist, author and pastry chef who perfected the German chocolate cake and caramels, known as “Betty Janson Caramels.”
Surviving are three children, James (Gayle) Janson of Boise, Linda (Jeff) McClure of Kent, and Cary (Linda) Janson of Latah; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Janson in 1998, and her three siblings.
Memorials can go to the Latah Country Bible Church, Latah Evergreen Cemetery, or the Alzheimer’s Association and Dementia Society of America.
