The Commoner

Oct. 10, 1890

The Garfield public school building burned to the ground Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The cause of the fire is unknown. The building was erected three years ago at a cost of about $4,000. It was a total loss, apparatus, books, and all. There was an insurance of $2,000.

Temporary rooms will be fitted up immediately and the school, which had been running a week and one day, will be resumed.

Steps will at once be taken for the erection of a larger and better building. The new building will, no doubt, be of brick, two stories high, with four large rooms....
