Parks proposes meetings for John Wayne Trail

Work continues on forming a plan to address the voided proposal to close a section of the John Wayne Trail.

After a packed meeting of interested parties in Tekoa two weeks ago, Representative Joe Schmick and Tekoa Trails Association President Ted Blaszak have been in talks to name a task force. At the same time, Washington State Parks submitted a proposal last week for Schmick to lead a public planning process on the matter.

Both options have yet to be decided.

“They sent a proposal. We talked about it,” Schmick said on Monday. “I’ll know more in a couple days.”
