Port awards $1.2 mil job bid

The Port of Whitman County commissioners Monday approved a bid award to Railworks of Airway Heights for a railroad project at the Port of Wilma.

Railworks had the low bid for the project, coming in just less than $1.2 million. The Port earlier this year received a $500,000 grant from the Freight Rail Assistance Project and also received a $500,000 loan from the Freight Rail Investment Bank. The Port also plans for $500,000 in port matching funds to complete the project.

The Port of Wilma railway project includes replacing 1,200 railroad ties and upgrading crossings.
