Serving Whitman County since 1877

The new C.P.P. Versatile shop and dealership is now open in Oakesdale.
Holding its grand opening last Friday afternoon, employees served tri-tip sandwiches, salads and pop on the premises of the 7,500-square foot building which went up this spring and summer.
“It was typical construction,” said owner Ray Oneal. “A little frustrating at times. There's a lot of construction going on in the county.”
The original aim was to open in the first part of July.
The shop and dealership will have two full-time employees and two part-time, along with sales and service people on the road.
“We'll probably end up with 10 employees before it's all done,” said Oneal.
The shop will carry tillage and haying equipment, and a line of two and four-wheel drive tractors.
Items on the shelves include auto parts, filters, antifreeze, oil and grease, along with a line of nuts, bolts and hydraulic hoses from 1/4-inch to 3/4-inch – with the option to order larger.
“We've put in $50,000 worth of inventory, now we'll see what sells,” said Oneal.
The new owner, who works out of an office in Lapwai, Idaho, chose Oakesdale for the dealership because of its central location between the top of the Lewiston hill and Spokane.
Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer Monday through Saturday.
“If farmers are working out in the field and they need service; we'll be there,” Oneal said.
